Enolase is an enzyme in glycolysis system and the protein consists of dimmer structure selected from three subunits α, β and γ. As αγ and γγ enolase exists such as in neuron cell and axis cylinder process, they are called “Neuron specific enolase (NSE)”. Recently, it becomes appear that NSE exists in neuroendocrine cell found in each internal organs, so it is known as tumor marker which is useful for study of small cell lung carcinoma, neuroblastoma and neuroendocrine tumors.
