Alpha Klotho (α-Klotho)

Alpha Klotho (α-Klotho) has been well known as an anti-aging biomarker and widely measured in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) research. It is a one-transmembrane protein (130kDa) that is expressed in kidneys and the parathyroid glands. It has an important role for regulating mineral metabolism such as calcium and phosphorus.
α-Klotho functions as a co-receptor of FGF receptors to activate the specific fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) signal pathway. Many studies have observed a significant negative correlation between α-Klotho (decrease) and FGF23 levels (increase) in CKD.
The IBL human soluble a-Klotho ELISA specifically detects human soluble a-Klotho, KL1 and KL1+KL2.
