February 2rd, 2024 is National Wear Red Day! The American Heart Association designates the first Friday of February every year as National Wear Red Day, an awareness day for American women to understand their number one health threat – heart disease. We're proud to support the cause!
Facts on Heart Disease
- Cardiovascular disease is the No.1 killer of women.
- 57.6% of Black females have hypertension - more than any other race or ethnicity.
- Women continue to be underrepresented in CVD clinical trials.
- Cardiovascular disease kills more women than all forms of cancer combined and yet only 56% of women recognize that cardiovascular disease is their greatest health threat.
- Approximately 57.5% of total stroke deaths are in women.
- Health issues during pregnancy can greatly increase a women's risk for developing cardiovascular disease later in life.
- Of females 20 years or older, nearly 45% are living with some form of cardiovascular disease.

Reduce Your Risk
Dietary Measures
Reducing sodium, sugar, saturated fat, and trans fat intake can reduce your risk by defending against high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
Exercise
Just 30 minutes of exercise each day can improve blood circulation, cholesterol and blood pressure levels, stress management, energy level and sleep. All things necessary to reduce your risk.
Need to Know
The only way to know that your are at risk is to check! Regular visits and conversations with your provider can give you the information you need to improve your situation. Knowing your levels and your risk is a useful tool in protecting yourself from heart disease.
