LPL is an enzyme which catabolizes Triglyceride (TG).  It has an important role for TG metabolism as the essential factor ApoC-II. 

Deficiency of LPL and decline of function are found in type I, IV and V hyperlipemia and have been considered one of the causes of high TG.
