Claudin is a transmembrane protein that 4 times goes through the membrane to be formed a gene family and a tight junction molecule that is involved in cell to cell adhesion of epithelial and endothelial cell sheets. It also gets together among several different and/or same type of Claudin. The structure consists of 2 loops that are found in extracellular and both its N-terminal and C-terminal domain in intracellular.
Fundamental structures among its family are common and its molecular weight is around 20 - 27kDa. Its C-terminal domain binds PDZ domain of ZO-1, ZO-2 and ZO-3 (protein behind the transmenbrane).
It has been known that Claudin-1, 2, 6, 7 and 15 are distributed in mouse liver and kidneys while Claucin-5 is in vascular endothelium. For research use only, not for use in diagnostic procedures.
