Tau protein is a microtubule-associated protein of 45-50 kDa consisting of 352-441 amino acids. It plays a role in stabilizing microtubules that transport intracellular substances in neurons. Tauopathies such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) and frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD) are known to be caused by abnormal accumulation of tau protein. It has been known that human phosphorylated tau 181 (pTau181) is elevated in CSF of AD patients. Recently, human phosphorylated tau 217 (pTau217) in CSF is elevated earlier than pTau181 so that it has been attracting a lot of attention as a novel biomarker for AD research. This ELISA kit specifically measures pTau217 in human CSF. For research use only, not for use in diagnostic procedures.
