Rictor (rapamycin-insensitive companion of mTOR/ mAVO3) is about 200 kDa and identified as an mTOR-binding protein. Rictor is a factor that constitutes a complex with mLST8 and Sin 1 which is called mTORC2 (mTOR complex 2), and it is contrasted with raptor in mTORC1. It has a domain structure which is rather conserved over species, and these are thought to be necessary for formation of mTORC2 and binding to substrates, but then the details of their functions are not clear. Regulation of actin-cytoskeletal organization through mediation of Rho family (low molecular weight GTP-binding protein) and PKCα, and phosphorylation of hydrophobic motif site at the C-terminal of PKB/Akt have been reported as effects of mTORC2 including rictor.
